McKay Bricker Gallery & Framing 141 East Main Street, Kent, OH 44240
Artist Reception Saturday October 23rd, 6:00 to 9:00pm
Bruce Stebner tells people he was born with crayons in his hand, and that isnt far from the truth. By the time he was a teenager, he was making pottery with the potters wheel and kiln his father built for him. After attending art school, he spent time as an interpretive craftsman in the museum world. There, he investigated both salt-glazed and wood fired pottery techniques. This prepared him for his 30 year career as a studio potter. For the past 14 years he has focused his interest in ceramics on making Faience-painted pottery. His murals grace homes around the country. By popular demand, he has begun painting in oils on linen canvas.
His work has been featured in Country Living, Country Home, The Cleveland Plain Dealer, the Akron Beacon Journal, and the Chicago Tribune. His pottery has been shown at the Mansfield Art Museum and Akron Art Museum, and has been made available for sale at the Museum of American Folk Art, New York. European country settings, antiques, farm animals and garden plants continue to inspire all he does.
