Follows a pair of married couples, Alfie and Helena, and their daughter Sally and husband Roy, as their passions, ambitions, and anxieties lead them into trouble and out of their minds. After Alfie leaves Helena to pursue his lost youth and a free-spirited call girl named Charmaine, Helena abandons rationality and surrenders her life to the loopy advice of a charlatan fortune teller. Unhappy in her marriage, Sally develops a crush on her handsome art gallery owner boss, Greg, while Roy, a novelist nervously awaiting the response to his latest manuscript, becomes moonstruck over Dia, a mystery woman who catches his gaze through a nearby window. Despite these characters' attempts to dodge their problems with pipe dreams and impracticable plans, their efforts lead only to heartache, irrationality, and perilous hot water. Taking its title from the prediction fortune tellers use to beguile their marks, You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger illustrates with wry humor how easy it is for our illusions to make fools of us all. Comedy, Romance. 98 min. Rated R. 35mm.

Director Sam Taylor Wood's fascinating film provides a fictional look at John Lennon's early path from boy to man to legend: a portrait of the artist as a smart, talented, but directionless young man who steals records and skips school in 1955 Liverpool. Powerful performances from BAFTA-nominated actresses Kristin Scott Thomas and Anne-Marie Duff, who play the aunt who raised him and the estranged mother who fought for his attention in his teen years, bring to life a crucial part of the journey that led to the creation of the greatest rock band of all time. From meeting a young Paul McCartney and starting up The Quarrymen as a refuge from his painful past, to falling in love for the first time, "Nowhere Boy" avoids the pitfalls of biopic nostalgia to reveal the emotional and musical birth of a legend. The first feature film from artist-turned-director Sam Taylor-Wood, Nowhere Boy was the closing night attraction at the 2009 BFI London Film Festival. This movie's (limited) theatrical release date in the United States was October 8, 2010, one day before what would have been John Lennon's 70th birthday. Biography / Drama / Music. 98 minutes. Rated R for language and a scene of sexuality. 2009.
