Chappars Law Office has an established civil litigation practice in greater Dayton, Ohio handling state and federal cases primarily in the state of Ohio. Timothy S. Chappars has been a trial lawyer in Greene County for over 25 years. He graduated as salutatorian from Beavercreek High School in 1970, Duke University cum laude in 1974, and the University of Cincinnati College of Law in 1978. He is a member of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, the Ohio Academy of Trial Lawyers, and the Million Dollar Advocates Forum. He has largely limited his practice to personal injury, products liability, medical and legal malpractice, wrongful death, and insurance bad faith cases.
Chappars Law Office has successfully handled numerous high-profile cases with significant value. Currently Timothy S. Chappars is lead litigation counsel in the case involving a child struck by a hockey puck at Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio on March 16, 2002. The office has recently concluded two different multi-million dollar wrongful death cases against a southwestern Ohio trucking concern. Chappars Law Office previously settled a case for $2,500,000.00 wherein a motorcyclist lost his leg in a motor vehicle collision in southwestern Ohio. Timothy S. Chappars was the lead attorney in a high profile Ohio wrongful death case when a childs jacket drawstring became entangled in a school bus handrail, which resulted in a substantial seven figure resolution. Timothy S. Chappars was lead counsel in another significant wrongful death case wherein a 16 year old student lost control of a motor vehicle on icy roads and was killed while his drivers training instructor was in the passenger seat.
In addition to vehicle and premises cases, the office has successfully handled tort cases from medical malpractice to products liability, including cases against automobile manufactures for claims involving defective restraints, side-door beam failure, and roof crush deformation, as well as a recent seven-figure case against an electrical subcontractor for a serious injury attributable to high voltage power transmission lines.
The ATLA Journal reported another of Timothy S. Chappars cases, Brown v. Ohio Gas & Appliance, involving the wrongful death of an employee caused by a gas explosion. Timothy S. Chappars represented the plaintiff in obtaining a jury verdict against Nationwide Insurance in Leforge v. Nationwide, 82 App.3d 692 (1992), upheld in the Twelfth District Court of Appeals, for Nationwide's tort of bad faith. Timothy S. Chappars successfully argued Elam v. Hyatt Legal Services, 44 Ohio St.3d 175 (1989), which has been cited nationwide on issues pertaining to legal duties owed by a fiduciary in a legal malpractice case.
Also, the office has handled cases out of state. For example, some years ago Timothy S. Chappars settled a case when a woman in New York was traveling to a ski facility and was involved in a motor vehicle accident, resulting in a significant six-figure recovery for her broken leg, and more recently had a similar settlement for a serious ski accident case in Colorado.
Timothy S. Chappars has just been included in the 58th Edition of Whos Who In America for 2004. The founder of Whos Who in America in 1899 created the publication to list those individuals who are of current national reference interest inquiry either because of meritorious achievement or because of the position they hold.
Cases are typically referred to the office from other attorneys and past clients. The firm does not advertise on television or billboards. Chappars Law Office cannot accept all cases, but upon careful screening, if the case is accepted, Timothy S. Chappars will personally provide aggressive representation in the case. All calls are typically returned promptly when possible. The office does not use voice mail. Clients will be copied with all correspondence and pleadings. Fees are on a reasonable contingent basis and negotiable.
