Founded in 1916, the International Institute of Akron (IIA) is a non-profit agency that provides services to the foreign-born in Akron and the Summit County, Ohio community. Our mission is to contribute to the well being of our community by creating and implementing programs and services to assist the foreign born to integrate into our society, to promote public awareness of the value of ethnic diversity, and to encourage international communication.
The International Institute of Akron is recognized by the United States Department of Justice Board of Immigration Appeals to represent the foreign born. Our immigration counselors are accredited by the Board of Immigration Appeals and the US Department of Homeland Security to represent clients before the courts and the DHS. The International Institute of Akron is also a member of the U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants (USCRI).

IIA Immigration Counselors will be on hand to provide advice on the process and eligibility requirements of naturalization. Representatives from the Cleveland Field Office of United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) will offer assistance in completing Applications for Naturalization. IIA Awarded $78,173 Federal Grant for Citizenship Education and Naturalization Legal ServicesSeptember 17, 2010 -The International Institute of Akron (IIA) has been selected to receive a grant totaling $78,173 as part of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) Fiscal Year (FY) 2010 Citizenship and Integration Grant Program. With these funds, the IIA will expand its current ESOL Civics program from two days per week to three. Civics-focused curriculum will help eligible refugees and immigrants improve their English and civics knowledge in preparation for becoming U.S. citizens. The IIA will also expand its Naturalization Application Services by offering bi-monthly evening Citizenship Assistance Workshops in which Accredited Immigration Counselors assist individuals with the Naturalization Application.
