Prevention: Before your leaves begin to fall, covering your pond with Pond Netting is recommended. Keeping out as much dead organic material as possible will help with pond fish survival. After the first frost remove any dead/dying tropical pond plants and trim back any hardy pond plants.
Maintenance: Maintain your pond with Microbe-Lift Autumn/Winter Prep. This helps to accelerate the decomposition of leaves and other organic matter in your pond. Microbe-Lift Autumn/Winter Prep also helps to maintain a healthy immune system in your fish and will help to jump start your pond to a healthier environment in the Spring.
Cold Weather Fishfood: As water temperatures drop in the Fall the metablolism of pond fish slows considerably. A Floating Pond Thermometer is highly recommended for knowing when to change foods and when to stop feeding completely. Once water temperatures drop below 60 degrees it is better to switch to either Microbe-Lift Cold WeatherFood or Tetra Spring/Fall Diet. Both fishfoods are wheat germ based which is more easily digestible for the fish. They also have higher fat contents to help prepare your pond fish for winter. Stop feeding completely at water temperatures below 50 degrees.
Algae Control: Algaecides are ineffective in water temperatures below 50 degrees. Microbe-Lift Barley Straw Extract helps to prevent the growth of string algae even in freezing temperatures. A Floating Pond Thermometer is recommended.
Pond De-Icers:Shortly before your pond reaches freezing temperatures, add a Floating Pond De-Icer to your pond. Ice covered ponds trap toxic gases, causing your pond fish to suffocate. A Floating Pond De-Icer will allow an exchange of oxygen and gases.

Submerged Pond Plants

Submerged pond plants are a must for any water garden. They compete with algae for nutrients in the water, which helps to keep your pond clear.
