OAK HILL -- Presale tickets are available (beginning Wednesday, Nov. 17) at Oak Hill High School for Saturday nights Division V, Region 19 football playoff game. Oak Hill meets Fredericktown for the Region 19 championship. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Hamilton Townships Hamilton Field.
JACKSON-- With temperatures again hovering in the 60 to 70 degree range, it is hard to believe Thanksgiving is only a week away, and that the annual American Cancer Society (ACS) Festival of Trees (FOT) is a mere 2 days away.
JACKSON--With the holiday season quickly approaching, Operation Christmas Child is at it again, collecting shoe boxes for needy children worldwide.
FOOTBALL: Ironton-Hartley game set Friday in Logan
LOGAN -- Logan Chieftain Stadium is becoming a home away from home for the Ironton Fighting Tigers. For the second straight week, Logan Chieftain Stadium will host a neutral-site football playoff game featuring the Fighting Tigers, this time when Ironton takes on Columbus Hartley in the Division IV Region 15 finals this Friday (7:30 p.m.). Ironton (10-2) rolled past Sparta Highland 43-7 in Logan Chieftain Stadium last Friday while Hartley (10-2) defeated Heath 39-26 in its regional semi. It will be a rematch of a week eight game in which Ironton beat the Hawks 37-16 in Tanks Memorial Stadium. Ironton is the top-seeded team in Region 15 while Hartley is seeded third.
SOCCER: Ironmen, Ironladies land all-district soccer
The Jackson Ironmen and Jackson Ironladies soccer squads combined for nine total players on this seasons all-Southeast District teams which have been announced. The Ironladies landed five players and the Ironmen four, as three Ironladies in fact were repeat representatives to the Division I teams.

Jimmy Allen Arthur, age 58
Jimmy Allen Arthur, age 58, of Jackson passed away Saturday, November 13, 2010 after an extended illness. Jim was a lifelong resident of Jackson. He was born October 14, 1952 in Oak Hill to Harold and Inez (Webb) Arthur. Jim married the love of his life, Connie Phillips Johnson on December 22, 1994.
Glenna K. LeGrand
Glenna K. LeGrand passed away on Sunday, November 14, 2010 after a brief illness at Kings Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Kentucky. Glenna was born on February 16, 1941 in Oak Hill to the late Carl E. and Ethel M. McCorkle.
Samuel Sam Brackman, age 78
Samuel Sam Brackman, age 78, of Jackson, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, November 14, 2010, at Jenkins Memorial Health Facility, Wellston, Ohio. He was born in Jackson County, Ohio, on March 23, 1932. He was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Margaret (Callahan) Brackman.
Donald A. Kuhn, Sr., 78
Donald A. Kuhn Sr., age 78, of Ravenna, formerly of Oak Hill, passed away Friday, Nov. 5, 2010 at his son's home with his family by his side. He was born March 5, 1932 in Oak Hill, Ohio to the late Albert and Pauline (Clark) Kuhn.
Tara Lewis Martin, 31
Tara Lewis Martin, age 31, of Wellston, passed away Thursday, Nov. 4, 2010, at the home of her mother and step-father. She was born Dec. 6, 1978 in Gallipolis, Ohio. Tara was a 1997 graduate of Wellston High School.

LETTER: Attorney for U S RAIL response to City
On Monday, October 11, 2010, U S RAILs attorney suggested to the attorneys who represent the City of Jackson that depositions be suspended until the City could reply to U S RAILs settlement proposal. The City of Jacksons attorneys asked that U S RAIL agree not to engage in writing letters to the Editor or issuing press releases about the pending lawsuit the City filed against U S RAIL for a period of 45 days to permit the Citys attorneys to meet with City officials and prepare a response to U S RAILs settlement proposal. Then on Wednesday, October 13th, the City issued a press release about the case. The same text appeared as a letter to the Editor of the Times Journal from attorney William Martin in the Sunday, October 17, 2010 edition. US RAIL feels it must reply.

The students and staff of Oak Hill Elementary School would like to cordially invite everyone to attend the 6th Annual Festival of Trees to be held on Monday, evening, Nov. 22, beginning at 5 p.m.
Reminder to watch for students participating in Jacksons after-school Success Program
The Jackson City School District would like to remind the community that our Success Program currently has eleven school buses transporting students home from Northview, Southview, Westview, and Jackson Middle School between 5 and 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday. This means that there are buses making stops as well as students walking home from bus stops and in designated walking areas after the Success programs close at 5 each day. Community members are asked to please watch out for those students and buses to help keep our Success students safe. Your assistance is increasingly important to us as we experience the time change and winter months with darkness occurring earlier in the afterschool hours. Local teacher receives Education Award
COLUMBUS-- Virtual Community School of Ohio (VCS Ohio) teacher Bryn Stepp of Jackson received the Best Practices Award at the 2010 VCS Ohio Opening Day ceremony at the Wedgewood Country Club in Powell. Stepp was selected by the management team for her highly innovative approach to learning as well as her leadership skills and her close contact with students and parents. She teaches sixth grade language arts and social studies and has been with VCS for eight years.

Struggling homeowners in Jackson County can get up to $15,000 mortgage payment assistance
As of Sept. 27, 2010, struggling homeowners throughout Ohio may be eligible for up to $15,000 in mortgage payment assistance. Ohio has been awarded $320 million from the U.S. Department of Treasurys Hardest-Hit Fund to help homeowners avoid foreclosure. This money will be used to provide direct assistance to homeowners struggling to make mortgage payments due to job loss or other economic hardship through Restoring Stability: A Save the Dream Ohio Initiative.
