FDIC's Transaction Account Guarantee Program
The Farmers and Merchants Bank is participating in the FDIC's Transaction Account Guarantee Program. Under that program, through December 31, 2010, all noninterest-bearing transaction accounts are fully guaranteed by the FDIC for the entire amount in the account. Coverage under the Transaction Account Guarantee Program is in addition to and separate from the coverage under the FDIC's general deposit insurance rules.
For purposes of the Transaction Account Guarantee Program, noninterest bearing transaction accounts include:
1) Negotiable Order of Withdrawal accounts (NOW accounts) where the insured depository institution has committed to maintain the interest rate at or below 0.25 (after June 30, 2010) and
2) Interest on Lawyers Trust Accounts (IOLTA's).
At The Farmers and Merchants Bank, fully guaranteed transactional accounts include 1) NOW accounts and 2) IOLTAs. However, Premium Super NOW accounts pay a premium rate of interest in excess of the Transaction Account Guarantee Program limitations and are covered under the FDIC's general deposit insurance rules.
Additionally, FDIC deposit insurance has been permanently increased to $250,000.00.
