Mayor John Wells checks out the work that is being done on the Twin City Opera House/Village Office Building, owned by the Village of McConnelsville. During the annual inspection of the Opera House several deficiencies where detected. While cleaning the building, it was found that a section of bricks and mortar were deteriorating as mortar between bricks was washing away. To prevent any safety hazards and to prolong the life of the building, the village is having the problems repaired by Poplar Ridge Construction. The Opera House is more than 110 years old and the village wanted to correct this problem before winter and the next freeze/thaw process. The village and Opera House, Inc. have obtained grant funding ($75,000-$100,000) that will be released to them sometime in 2011. At that time they will be doing more work on the exterior of the Opera House such as replacing the roof over the theater, repairing gutters, and maybe repairs to the windows. McConnelsville Councilman Steve Inman is working with the Opera House on the 2011 project and its grant funding.
