Welcome, I am Vicki Furnas owner and teacher.
I began my career in dance as a 5 year old student at the Vicki Jo Dance Studio. After receiving numerous awards in dance and acrobat as a student, I began teaching dance in 1971. In 1992 I acquired the studio from my lifetime instructor Victoria Jo Boyer.
My head assistant and I are members of Dance Masters of America. Membership is granted only after passing a strenuous set of tests in dance knowledge, skill, and creativity. After obtaining my membership, I successfully completed three sessions at Dance Masters of America Teachers Training School on the campus of Kent State University, receiving an excellent rating. I have studied under numerous well-known teachers such as: David Howard, Judy Bassing, Luigi, Julie Oster, Tremaine, and numerous others, making me, I feel, well-rounded. I have taught in a variety of venues, High School Musicals, Show Choirs, I have taught for the Parks and recreation of Xenia, Judged Miss Ohio Contestents, Taught dance routines to Miss Ohio contestants, and I do choreography and participate our church liturgical group.
Angela Knott is my head assistant. Angie attended Sinclair Community College, In their dance program. Angie is also a professional massage therapist, gaining the knowledge of skeletal and muscular aspects of the body. She has been a teacher at the Vicki Jo Dance Studio for eleven years, and is the choreographer of our production number at the end of the recital. The Vicki Jo Dance Studio is celebrating it's 50th year, and our students have become more technically sound each year. Angie and I attend DMO conventions every year to stay on top of the latest in dance.
Our competition students are invited to join, after we determine their abilities. We attend one regional competition, and one national competition, with the understanding that our students are well-rounded and have the ability to also participate in school activities. We now have an Elite group who auditioned for a place in this group. This group is for the student who would like to take dance class more than once or twice a week.
Life these days is abundantly busy, so our hope is to be very convenient for the parents. Classes for students are scheduled back to back, with only one trip a week to the studio. Our students range in age from 3 years old to 65 years old. All classes are 30 minutes each, except for competition groups. Classes available are:BALLET - 3 through adult, ACROBAT - 3 through 12, TAP - 5 through adult, JAZZ - 7 through adult, HIP HOP - 9 through adult, HAWAIIAN - 8 through teen. We also have adult tap & jazz competition groups.
Registration for fall classes will start in April.
By sharing my knowledge of dance and my passion for dance with my students, I hope to contribute to their physical, emotional, and social development.
