Today, some 40 years after our beginning, TNSM continues to stand for ideals larger than the school itself. The parents, staff and children bring a mutual dedication to the educational development and socialization of the community. The feeling associated with TNSM can be experienced firsthand through listening to the children as they discuss ways to solve a problem, watching them work purposefully, and by allowing the spirit to embrace you through the walls of the historic Mitchell Mansion. These attributes help make TNSM a special place.

The New School Montessori classrooms are organized according to the Montessori three-year age groupings:

We have two Preprimary classes for 3 to 6 year olds. Kindergartners participate in special afternoon lessons while younger children nap or engage in other activities.

Our Lower Elementary program is for children aged 6 to 9; the Upper Elementary is for 9 to 12 year olds. Along with studying language arts, math, geometry, natural and physical sciences, history and geography, students enjoy special programs in music, Spanish, physical education, dance and art.
