Some call it cowboy music; some call it folk music; some call it the best in western music. Call it what you like, the bottom line is this: Riders in the Sky deliver pure and priceless entertainment. The foursome combines refreshing acoustical music and a wide musical repertoire with outrageous comedy.
They created and hosted Riders’ Radio Theater, recorded more than 20 albums, starred in their own Saturday morning TV series for CBS, appeared multiple times on Austin City Limits and are performing members of the Grand Ole Opry. In 2001, the band won a Grammy Award for Best Musical Album for Children for Woody’s Roundup from the hit movie Toy Story 2. Then again in March of 2002, they were recognized with a Grammy Award for their original musical score in the Oscar winning animated short film, For the Birds. The animated short was seen worldwide as an opening feature for Walt Disney’s, Monsters, Inc.
The moment America’s Favorite Cowboys step up to the microphone the magic begins, allowing listeners to leave behind the frenzied pace of today’s living and lose themselves in the romantic, comical and whimsical world of the singing cowboy.
Tonic Sol Fa
Although they are simply four voices and a tambourine, Tonic Sol-Fa has spent the past decade on the road carving their niche as the nation’s top vocal group. In that time, this quartet has been named one of the top five “must see” groups in America.
They have been given numerous original song and album awards in pop, gospel and holiday genres, appeared on NBC’s Today Show and in the pages of Newsweek magazine. Outings with Jay Leno, Shawn Colvin, Lonestar and Garrison Keillor have propelled album sales to more than 1,000,000 copies and have earned the group thousands of intensely loyal fans.
Tonic Sol-Fa has appeared in Newsweek, Country Weekly and Media Style magazines and performed on NBC’s Today Show, A Prairie Home Companion with Garrison Keillor and DC’s nationally syndicated radio program among others. Tonic Sol-Fa has two Emmy nominations for Holiday Arrangement along with two “Independent Grammy” wins for Best Original Holiday Song and Best Original Pop Song out of 650,000 entries.
The New York Times describes Tonic Sol-fa’s sound as “A vocal kaleidoscope…unique to the human voice.”” Improvisational and passionate music combined with cutting-edge stage presence is the benchmark by which critics and fans agree: nobody does it like Tonic Sol-fa.
Fans of Straight No Chaser will fall head over heels for Tonic Sol-Fa !
One of the most influential vocal groups of the 1950’s, The Four Freshmen, a multiple Grammy-nominated male quartet, pioneered a revolutionary new style of close-harmony vocals. The Four Freshmen influenced many vocal groups, including The Lettermen, Beach Boys, The Association, The Four Seasons and The Manhattan Transfer.
In 1952, the band released their first hit single “It’s a Blue World,” which brought them instant recognition among mainstream audiences. Their subsequent releases of “Mood Indigo” in 1954 and “Day by Day” in 1955 and “Graduation Day” in 1956 showed that The Four Freshmen were more than just a one-hit wonder sensation.
Today’s Four Freshmen are continuing the legendary vocal tradition of the original band, while adding new vitality and their own brand of humor to the repertoire. They tour internationally to sold-out audiences. In 2000 the group won Downbeat Magazine’s reader’s poll award for Vocal Group of the Year.
