Disabling the Low Disk Space Notification in Windows XP
The picture above may be a familiar sight to some of you out there. In Microsoft Windows XP there is a feature that detects if you are running low on disk space and will assist you in cleaning out temporary files in order to free up some space. While this is certainly a nice option to have, some of you might see warnings such as this pop up even when you have plenty of free space available or even if you have a fairly new computer due to the way that some manufacturers configure their systems. If that's the case, this message can quickly go from being helpful and useful to simply annoying.
Microsoft does provide a way to disable this notification via their knowledge base. The method that Microsoft recommends to disable this involves editing the system registry. Editing the registry can potentially be dangerous, so make sure to follow the instructions to the letter. The knowledge base article from Microsoft can be found here: Description of the Low Disk Notification in Windows XP.
