MID-OHIO VALLEY PARISH DISCIPLES OF CHRIST is a unique parish formed in 2006 by two seperate congregations, First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Parkersburg, WV and Central Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Marietta, OH. Each congregation continues to function as a seperate organization. First Christian in Parkersburg is part of the Christian Church in WV. Central Christian is part of the Christian Church in OH. Both congregations are part of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in the United States and Canada. Together we minister to the entire Mid-Ohio Valley. Our mission starts in the Mid-Ohio Valley and goes far beyond our local area.
We invite everyone to come and be a part of our fellowship and service to Jesus Christ.
Message of the Week
Do you wish you were wiser? Most of us do. We know we need more wisdom. James says the wise people are the ones who put their faith into action. It is rooted in our pure faith. It expresses itself in peacemaking. It is the unwise who create problems. It is the wise who see the need for peace and the futility of any type of violence. The wise are the ones who work to diffuse situations, help build up peace, and show everyone what love and forgiveness look like. The wise are the ones who live a life that shows no partiality to anyone (or prejudices against anyone) and who both live and say what they truly believe (and therefore are not hypocrites). These are all signs of spiritually mature people. Is everyone in church this spiritually mature and this wise? Of course not, if they all were then that would mean the church isn’t doing its job of reaching the un-churched and helping them grow and mature in their faith and wisdom. There will always be people in church at various levels of wisdom and spiritual growth. The question you have to answer is where are you on this continuum and where do you want to be? If you want to be one of these wise, mature Christians that James describes then, like any skill you wish to improve, you have to practice at it. The best way to improve your golf game is to golf. The best way to improve your spiritual wisdom is to practice being “pure, then gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without a trace of partiality or hypocrisy.”
