About Dan De Figueiredo
Dan de Figueiredo is a writer and sometime humorist. He is admittedly a proverbial troubled middle child born into an Irish-English family in the Portuguese enclave of Hamilton , Ontario during the turbulence of the 1960s. His first introduction to writin was Robinson Crusoe by Daniel Dafoe. That book inspired a 30-year search for Sexta-feira (Friday) and a life-long love of words.
Along the way he has held a number of jobs in order to make ends nearly meet. Those have included construction worker, hamburger flipper, newspaper deliverer, theatre usher, cashier,
graphically challenged graphic designer, telemarketer, hotel desk clerk, bookseller and well, you get the idea.
Mostly he has been a writer, which has of course allowed him to hold all of those other jobs.
He is the author of six books of a semi-humorous persuasion:
What Is Canada? The Ultimate Canadian Quiz Book, Fakin eh! How To Pretend To Be A Canadian, Canadian Top Ten Lists, Weird Canadian Places, Weird Ontario Places,
and the soon to be published
American The Strange.
You can find out more about those books if you click on the button above and to the left that reads The Books.
At various times during his past he has lived in the United States (Washington, DC, Bethesda, MD, Torrance, CA) been a journalist (XTRA, ArtViews, Vox, The Driver),
written for television (Cooler Facts, Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, Reach For The Top), the illegitimate theatre (Last Stop Welland On The Tercel Express,
The Court Jester, Jack & The Beanstalk: Verminator Toos Revenge) and film (Vox Populi, The Little Picture, Dashing Darren, Chalkdust Baron).
He has on occasion also assumed different shapes (pear, triangle, pretzel), names (Brad, Dilks, Samantha), and personas (scenery, boss, Kaptain Kanada).
What is he hiding? Not much, so please God someone tell him that he should!
He currently lives in Toronto , is married, owns a little dog and holds down various and sundry prominent positions in industry,
though rarely Captain. Except in command performance situations, that is.
