Low Vision Self-Help Support Groups
Our licensed social workers assist clients in starting and running community based, low vision self-help support groups. These groups are run by clients, volunteers, and/or professionals. They are a place to come together to share your experiences, insights and allow you to spend time with others who share the challenge of vision loss. Low vision self-help groups exist in senior living buildings, libraries, churches, temples, and senior centers. Our social workers will help you find a group and/or give you the tools to help you get a group started. Low Vision Support Groups.

Listen to Jack and his parents tell their story.
The agency's benefit, Spellbound 2010 "The Magic of Technology" was truly a magical evening for nearly 400 guests comprised of clients, friends, supporters, trustees, volunteers and staff coming together as part of the Cleveland Sight Center family. The evening was a joyous event celebrating the triumphs of our clients and their families in facing vision loss, and the role that assistive technology plays in helping our clients live, work and play more safely and independently. WKYC Channel 3 news anchor Dick Russ was Master of Ceremonies.
Jackson (Jack) Piper, an 11-year-old client, along with his 6-year-old sister, Taylor, were the stars of the evening. They are featured in the video above, in which their parents Renee and Doug Piper talk about the ongoing support they receive from Cleveland Sight Center and the Nordonia Schools system. Jack speaks about the important role that assistive technology plays in his ability to be successful at school. Using assistive technology, he and Taylor designed the Spellbound 2010 invitation. They each had an opportunity to address event guests and truly captivated everyone in the room!

Extreme Makeover: Home Edition to Feature Andersons on December 5th

We are pleased to announce that the Anderson family episode of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition will be broadcast on Sunday, December 5th! The family was selected as the recipient of a brand new home after sharing their personal story with the popular television shows producers. Andre and Jasmine Anderson are both clients of Cleveland Sight Center and advocates for people with disabilities. They are an inspiration to all those around them. Andre is currently doing his graduate-level internship at Cleveland Sight Center, and Jasmine leads a low vision support group and does presentations to school-age children regarding persons with disabilities, communicating their many capabilities and helping to dispel misperceptions.
Extreme Makeover: Home Edition host Ty Pennington and the show's entire design team along with Marous Brothers Construction created an extraordinary home for Andre, Jasmine, sons Jaison and Jahzion, and Andres guide dog, Valentine. Cleveland Sight Center was pleased to be a resource regarding adaptations and assistive technology for the project to help make everyday life safe and accessible for the family. The show is broadcast weekly on Sundays 8/7c on ABC. Tune in early for a locally produced behind-the-scenes special at 7:00 p.m. on ABC-affiliate WEWS Channel 5.

Cleveland Sight Centers Bright Futures Preschool students and some of their family members were treated to an exclusive and unique sensory event at Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus. Our current students, along with one of our Bright Futures graduates, and members of our preschool staff all joined circus performers and some of the child-friendly animals at the arena for a truly exciting time. Our students were able to pet and feed the animals, try on costumes and use some of the props that the performers use. All of our Bright Futures students, as well as the rest of our school-age clients and their families, were invited to attend a traditional circus performance at no cost. Please access links below to media coverage of our kids at the special sensory event.

We are pleased to present a wonderful selection of unique holiday greeting cards created by local artists. Proceeds benefit Cleveland Sight Center programs and services for clients of all ages who are blind or visually impaired.
