Orrin Smucker was raised on a farm located in Orrville, Ohio. One of 10 children in the family of Simon and Lydia Smucker, he attended Kent State University. Here he met and later married Blanche Hillman of Youngstown, Ohio.
In 1936, the couple moved to Columbus, Ohio where he pursued his love of teaching while Blanche stayed home to raise their family.
They moved in 1946 to Plain City, Ohio where the last two of their six children were born.
In the 1950s, Orrin opened an office in their home representing Mennonite Mutual Aid. Soon he added additional insurance programs and was working evenings and weekends while commuting back and forth to Columbus. Smucker Insurance Agency was formally founded in 1958. Blanche taught kindergarten in their home and eventually taught students in the Jonathan Alder Elementary School. After 40 years of service to the Columbus Public Schools as teacher and administrator, Orrin retired and devoted his efforts to the insurance agency.
Son, Ralph, joined the family business in 1980 and continues to honor the values of hard work and sense of duty that his parents instilled in their family. Hes proud that Smucker Insurance stands for integrity and provides the best insurance protection solutions to clients and associates.
